Weekly Update
Christmas Raffle
Christmas raffle sheets were sent home on Tuesday 5th December. All families are asked to support the school Christmas raffle. Christmas raffle will take place on Thursday 21st December. Prizes are as follows: Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce Vouchers sponsored by Prochem, One 4 All Voucher sponsored by Greensbridge Engineering, Symths Voucher sponsored by Unecol Oil, 2 Hampers sponsored by Supervalu, The Hypercentre, Apex Voucher, New Ross, Hamper from Jones Business Systems.
Christmas School Closing
The school will close on Friday 22nd December at 12.10 pm. Buses will run at this time.
First Responders Training
Joanne Carroll from Ferrybank First Responders will undertake First Responders Training with 5th and 6th on Friday 12th January. (Groups of 5 pupils at a time).
School Christmas Newsletter
There will no weekly Friday staff and parents emails next Friday 22nd December. A Christmas Newsletter will be emailed to all families on Thursday 21st December. Newsletter will include information from all classrooms in school. Friday emails and termly newsletters are also available on school website www.stbeacons.com
Girls and Boys Football
Gaelic Football training for interested boys and girls in 4th to 6th class resumes in Wednesday 10th January at big break after Christmas holidays.

Road Safety
All Parents/Guardians collecting children are asked to Think Road Safety and Think Child Safety at busy collection times at 1.45 pm and 2.45 pm.
Pre-School Supervision
Pre-School supervision will be in operation in St. Beacon's N.S. between 8.45 am and 9.05 am. The recommended arrival time to school is between 8.45 am and 9.05 am. No pupil should be dropped off before 8.45 am. Pre School supervision reminder texts will be sent out once a month.
End of Day Collection
School finishes at 1.45 pm for Junior and Senior Infants and 2.45 pm for 1st to 6th Class. Parents/Guardians collecting non bus pupils are asked to collect pupils promptly at 2.45 pm.
Appointments Procedure
Any Parent/Guardian who is requesting to speak with a member of staff should do so through the office. A convenient time which suits both staff member and Parent/Guardian will then be arranged.
Nut Allergy Reminder
There are pupils in our school with Nut Allergies. Our school is a Nut Free School. Please ensure not to send in lunch with any traces of nuts. Thank you.
Choir
School choir made up of members of 3rd to 6th class are currently preparing songs for mass on Tuesday 19th December and Christmas carol performance on Thursday 21st December.
Assembly
Next whole school assembly takes place on Thursday 21st December.
Mass in advance of Christmas break
All classes will attend mass in St. Beacon’s Church on Tuesday 19th December at 10.00 am. Senior classes will do readings, prayers of the faithful and perform religious songs on the day.
Santa Stroll (Weather Permitting)
All classes will partake in Santa Stroll on the new walking track in Mullinavat GAA pitch on Wednesday 20th December.
Christmas Carol Singing
Senior classes 3rd to 6th class will perform Christmas carols for Junior classes on Thursday 21st December.
6th Class Junior Entrepreneur
6th Class Junior Entrepreneur calendars are now available from the school office for €10.
Communion Date Change
Date for First Holy Communion for 2nd Class is now on Saturday 18th May at 11.00 am in St. Beacon’s Church, Mullinavat. Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) will take place on Tuesday 5th March in St. Beacon’s Church.
Christmas Annuals
Christmas Annuals have been ordered. Christmas Annuals will be distributed to relevant classrooms once received.
Sensory Garden
A timetable has been devised so as all children/classes will have the opportunity to play in the Sensory Garden at specific time each week. Sensory Garden is located at the back of our school, close to Caretakers shed. Sensory garden has been suitably decorated for the Christmas season.
Chess
Chess continues on Tuesday 19th December at big break.
Board of Management
Our schools next Board of Management meeting will take place on Tuesday 6th February 2024.
Winter Weather
All pupils are asked to dress suitably for winter weather conditions after Halloween Break. Hats and coats will help facilitate yard, church visits and hall visits etc. Playground signs will be put up as necessary to encourage children to walk during possible icy weather conditions.
New Primary Maths Curriculum
This school year 2023/2024 will act as an introductory year for the New Primary Maths Curriculum. All schools will have to take a mandatory Planning Day to familiarise Teachers the New Primary Maths Curriculum. Our school has yet to receive a date for its mandatory New Primary Maths Curriculum training day for all teachers. Date of school closure to facilitate New Primary Maths Curriculum training will be communicated to all once it is received.
Work Experience Requests
Any past pupils of our school who would like to undertake T.Y., LCVP, SNA or Student Teacher work Experience in St. Beacon’s N.S. are asked to email/post a letter to our school explaining why they would like to undertake work experience in an educational facility. The earlier we receive work experience requests the better. Our school receives a lot of work experience requests each year, early notice will better allow our school to provide a meaningful work experience slot to anyone interested in following education as a career choice.
