Week Ahead and School Updates

3rd Mar 2024

Maths Evaluation  

Education Inspectors Claire Reidy and Noreen Bambury will be visiting our school for a Maths Evaluation on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th March. Some members of 4th – 6th Class will be chosen by the inspector to participate in a Maths Focus discussion group. Chosen pupils will bring home consent forms which will need to be signed and returned on Tuesday morning 5th March.  

First Confession  

Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) will take place on Tuesday 5th March in St. Beacon’s Church at 10.30 am. All Parents are welcome.  

Medical Requirements  

Any families of pupils with particular medical requirements (diabetes, epilepsy, asthma etc.) are asked to ensure school and class teacher are equipped with necessary inhalers, epipens, medication etc. so as school staff can act suitably if a medical situation arises during school hours. An appointment can be made with Class teacher and SNA if necessary.  

HSE information about Measles  

The HSE National Immunisation office have asked for us to bring to your attention information attached about measles.  

Soccer Coaching  

Soccer coaching for interested boys and girls in 5th and 6th class takes place on Monday 4th March in Mullinavat Community Centre at big break.  

Spelling Bee  

The winner is Thomas Maddock 5th class who will represent our school in the County final on Thursday 7th March in Gowran National School.  

Credit Union Quiz Final  

The date for Regional Credit Union Final is Sunday 3rd March at 3.00 pm in The Tower Hotel, Waterford. Quiz prep continues on Thursdays at big break after mid-term.  

Camogie and Hurling Training  

Camogie and hurling training for interested boys and girls in 4th to 6th class continues on Wednesday 6th March at big break in/on hall/pitch depending on weather. Schools Hurling Coaching on in Mullinavat GAA pitch on Friday 8th March from 1.40 pm to 2.40 pm interested hurlers and camogie players in 4th to 6th class with Mr. O’Keeffe, Miss Murphy and Mr. Lonergan weather premitting. Remainder of 4th to 6th class pupils will remain on school grounds with Ms. Collins and Miss Kervick  

Book Character Day  

Pupils are invited to dress up as book characters for Book Character Day on Thursday 7th March.  

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2024 Irish week 11th – 15th March is fast approaching. During Seachtain na Gaeilge children will enjoy a lot enjoyable activities – taispeantais, ledí, duaiseanna, Lá Glás, Teacher swap, Fócal an Lá, Phrása an Lá ..

Healthy Eating  

Our school promotes healthy eating. Healthy eating practices are promoted during SPHE lessons. No junk food should be sent to school Monday to Thursday. A small treat item of food can be brought to school on Fridays.

School Tour Information  

Junior and Senior Infants are going to SETU Arena Waterford on Thursday 20th June.   1st and 2nd Class are going to SETU Arena Waterford on Wednesday 19th June.   3rd to 6th Class are going to Dunmore Adventure Centre on Wednesday 5th June.   More information to follow re: times etc.  

Personal Devices  

No electronic personal devices (phones and watches with games etc.) are permitted in school and should not be present in school. Any personal electronic devices will be confiscated if present in school.  

Road Safety  

All Parents/Guardians collecting children are asked to Think Road Safety and Think Child Safety at busy collection times at 1.45 pm and 2.45 pm. In recent weeks we have noticed that some people using carpark are not following correct route to enter and exit carpark. This could prove dangerous for pupils using pedestrian crossing. A separate email explaining how to correctly enter and exit school/hall carpark has been emailed to all Parents/Guardians.  

SPHE/Stay Safe  

As part of all schools SPHE Curriculum all classes in our school will be undertaking SPHE Stay Safe lessons in Term 2.  

Pre-School Supervision  

Pre-School supervision will be in operation in St. Beacon's N.S. between 8.45 am and 9.05 am. The recommended arrival time to school is between 8.45 am and 9.05 am. No pupil should be dropped off before 8.45 am. Pre School supervision reminder texts will be sent out once a month.  

End of Day Collection  

School finishes at 1.45 pm for Junior and Senior Infants and 2.45 pm for 1st to 6th Class. Parents/Guardians collecting non bus pupils are asked to collect pupils promptly at 2.45 pm.

Appointments Procedure  

Any Parent/Guardian who is requesting to speak with a member of staff should do so through the office. A convenient time which suits both staff member and Parent/Guardian will then be arranged.  

Nut Allergy Reminder  

There are pupils in our school with Nut Allergies. Our school is a Nut Free School. Please ensure not to send in lunch with any traces of nuts. Thank you.  

Assembly  

Next whole school assembly takes place on Wednesday 24th April at 11.30 am. Class performance by 1st/2nd class.  

Parents Association  

Our schools next Parents committee meeting for 2023/2024 school year will take place on Tuesday 14th May at 6.30 pm in school hall. Reminder texts will be sent to committee members in advance.  

Board of Management  

Our schools next Board of Management meeting will take place on Tuesday 19th March 2024 at 3.30 pm. Reminder texts will be sent to Board of Management members in advance of meeting.  

Work Experience Requests  

Any past pupils of our school who would like to undertake T.Y., LCVP, SNA or Student Teacher work Experience in St. Beacon’s N.S. are asked to email/post a letter to our school explaining why they would like to undertake work experience in an educational facility. The earlier we receive work experience requests the better. Our school receives a lot of work experience requests each year, early notice will better allow our school to provide a meaningful work experience slot to anyone interested in following education as a career choice.  

Yoga for all Classes  

All classes will receive 5 weeks of yoga in Mullinavat Community Hall on Tuesdays starting 6th February up to Tuesday 12th March.
