We are extremely proud of the achievements of our quiz team this year. They are excellent representatives for our school and have achieved great success since the first Credit Union Quiz in Waterford on the 10th of February. Below you will find a summary of the highlights of their experiences.
CHAPTER 10 CREDIT UNION QUIZ
On Sunday the 10th of March 2025 we all arrived at Lawlor's Hotel Dungarvan to compete in the chapter level of the Credit Union Quiz. The team consisted of Oisin Butler, Patrick Raftice, Martin Raftice and Bria Wall. At 2 o'clock we sat down to compete, there were seven teams in both categories with 4 going into the All-Ireland final. There was 12 rounds of 6 questions. We got 61 questions right out of 72. We won medals, a plaque and €200 for the school. By Oisin and Patrick
CREDIT UNION ALL-IRELAND QUIZ FINAL 2025
When we got to the RDS we had to check in and get our badges. When we got the badges, we went to our table and sat down. After about 30 minutes the quiz started the questions were easy at the start but as the quiz progressed the questions got harder but we got better. After about round 6 we were up on the leader board in 8th place and by round 8 we were in 4th place. We were slowly climbing the leaderboard up until round twelve when they revealed the scores and the board read ST beacons 50. We were joint first place with two other teams so we had to go to a tiebreaker which decided who won. After the tiebreaker (which consisted of 3 questions)
After the tie breaker the winners were announced and we got second place and we won a Fitbit a plaque each 750 euro for the school and a cup for the school. We got our photo taken with the quizmaster and Martin Busch the president of the Irish league of credit unions. 2nd place is the farthest a team from our school has ever gotten, we had a great day overall. QUIZ TEAM ON KCLR
On the 7th of April 2025 the Quiz team were on KCLR. We were interviewed by Brian Redmond about the all-Ireland finals of the Credit Union Quiz in the RDS (Royal Dublin Society) in Dublin. We were interviewed on how well We did considering that we got 50 questions right and came joint first. Brian asked Us about lots of things about the quiz. In the end we were allowed to ask him a question based off their chosen subject. Oisin asked him about science, Martin about geography, Patrick history and Bria about music. Then we got pictures and left KCLR. By Oisin and Patrick
NEWSTALK QUIZ
On the 7th of may 2025 the quiz team took part in a quiz which was held over a zoom call. It was organized by Newstalk and Sligo education centre. There was roughly 120 teams and there was 50 questions. Out of the 50 questions we got 48 correct. Unfortunately we did not win but we got certificates.
