Dáil Éireann Visit
Sixth class had an early start this morning, we set off on the bus at 7am for our tour of Leinster House at 10am. We met Jerry, our guide, who first brought us to the Dáil Chamber where all government business is debated and discussed, all over seen by the Ceann Comhairle who keeps everyone in order. Upstairs in the Seanad, is a beautiful room where the Fitzgerald family held their ballroom dances when Leinster House was still a home. We saw all the portraits of former Uachtaráin, Taoisigh and Cinn Comhairle. A big thanks to Peter 'Chap' Cleere and Jenny Catt for organising this.
Next stop was Collins Barracks to see The National Museum of Ireland. We went to the Soldiers and Chiefs, the Irish at war at home and abroad since 1550 exhibition. This had three main sections
-Soldiering in Ireland
-Soldiering Abroad
-Soldiering in the 20th and 21st Centuries.
We saw the weapons, clothing, planes and tanks used throughout this time period.
After this we went to The Dead Zoo. Here we saw 10,000 specimens of plant and animal life from all over the world. It was amazing.
Finally we dined out in style in McDonalds, Kilcullen.
We arrived home exhausted but happy after a very memorable day out.
