Our New School Garden
Stephen O’ Shea has been very generous with his time to help us with our school garden.
Each class has been assigned a raised bed and they will plant seeds in the 8 raised beds using the B.A.S.L. crop rotation system.
This year Junior Infants and 3rd planted cabbages, 4th and Senior Infants planted onions, 1st and 5th planted potatoes and 6th and 2nd planted beans and peas.
Crop Rotation
Stephen explained the importance of crop rotation to us as well as teaching us how to take care of the garden effectively. He brought us out to weed the garden beds. He told us that we also have to fertilise the garden. We used organic fertiliser and then planted our seeds. Classes will spend the next few weeks weeding their raised beds and looking after their plants.
