Week Ahead and School Updates
Credit Union Quiz Final
The expected date for Regional Credit Union Final is Sunday 3rd March. Quiz prep continues on Thursdays at big break after mid-term.
Mid-term Break
School closes for Mid-term break on Wednesday 14th February at 2.45 pm. School reopens after mid-term break on Tuesday 20th February at 9.05 am.
Soccer Coaching
Soccer coaching for interested boys and girls in 5th and 6th class takes place on Tuesday 13th February in Mullinavat Community Centre at big break.
Camogie and Hurling Training
Camogie and hurling training for interested boys and girls in 4th to 6th class continues on Wednesday 14th February at big break in/on hall/pitch depending on weather.
Match Attack Soccer Cards
Trading of Match Attack cards on yard has proven problematic and led to upset among pupils. From today onwards we ask that No Match Attack cards be PRESENT in school. Match Attack cards in school will be confiscated and sent home at end of school day.
First Confession
Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) will take place on Tuesday 5th March in St. Beacon’s Church at 10.30 am. All Parents are welcome.
New School Furniture
Our new school furniture has arrived. All classrooms are now equipped with new age appropriate desks and chairs. Respect for school furniture and school equipment will be encouraged at whole school Assembly.
Road Safety
All Parents/Guardians collecting children are asked to Think Road Safety and Think Child Safety at busy collection times at 1.45 pm and 2.45 pm. In recent weeks we have noticed that some people using carpark are not following correct route to enter and exit carpark. This could prove dangerous for pupils using pedestrian crossing. A separate email explaining how to correctly enter and exit school/hall carpark has been emailed to all Parents/Guardians.
SPHE/Stay Safe
As part of all schools SPHE Curriculum all classes in our school will be undertaking SPHE Stay Safe lessons in Term 2.
Pre-School Supervision
Pre-School supervision will be in operation in St. Beacon's N.S. between 8.45 am and 9.05 am. The recommended arrival time to school is between 8.45 am and 9.05 am. No pupil should be dropped off before 8.45 am. Pre School supervision reminder texts will be sent out once a month.
End of Day Collection
School finishes at 1.45 pm for Junior and Senior Infants and 2.45 pm for 1st to 6th Class. Parents/Guardians collecting non bus pupils are asked to collect pupils promptly at 2.45 pm.
New Primary Maths Curriculum
School will be closed for all pupils on Monday 19th February 2024 to facilitate teacher attendance at New Primary Maths Curriculum Training day in Kilkenny Education Centre.

Appointments Procedure
Any Parent/Guardian who is requesting to speak with a member of staff should do so through the office. A convenient time which suits both staff member and Parent/Guardian will then be arranged.
Nut Allergy Reminder
There are pupils in our school with Nut Allergies. Our school is a Nut Free School. Please ensure not to send in lunch with any traces of nuts. Thank you.
Assembly
Next whole school assembly takes place on Wednesday 28th February at 11.30 am. Class performance by 1st/2nd class.
Chess
Chess continues on Tuesday 13th February at big break. There is a chess/draughts competition ongoing at present.
Parents Association
Our schools next Parents committee meeting for 2023/2024 school year will take place on Tuesday 14th May at 6.30 pm in school hall. Reminder texts will be sent to committee members in advance.
Board of Management
Our schools next Board of Management meeting will take place on Tuesday 19th March 2024 at 3.30 pm. Reminder texts will be sent to Board of Management members in advance of meeting.
Winter Weather
All pupils are asked to dress suitably for winter weather conditions after Halloween Break. Hats and coats will help facilitate yard, church visits and hall visits etc. Playground signs will be put up as necessary to encourage children to walk during possible icy weather conditions.
Work Experience Requests
Any past pupils of our school who would like to undertake T.Y., LCVP, SNA or Student Teacher work Experience in St. Beacon’s N.S. are asked to email/post a letter to our school explaining why they would like to undertake work experience in an educational facility. The earlier we receive work experience requests the better. Our school receives a lot of work experience requests each year, early notice will better allow our school to provide a meaningful work experience slot to anyone interested in following education as a career choice.
Literacy Team Teaching
In Term Two as per schools Literacy Team Teaching plan for 1st to 3rd class, Miss Glendon will work with 3rd class, Ms. Maher will work with 2nd class and Ms. Glancy will work with 1st class.
Rugby Coaching
Rugby coaching with Noel Devlin continues on Monday 26th February 1st /2nd and 2nd/3rd class. Pupils should wear tracksuit and runners on rugby coaching days.
Yoga for all Classes
All classes will receive 6 weeks of yoga in Mullinavat Community Hall on Tuesdays starting 6th February up to Tuesday 12th March.
School Fire Drill
Our schools second drill of Term Two will take place on Tuesday 27th February at 10.40 am.
